Waterproof fabrics that you will need this winter

Winter is just around the corner, and protecting yourself from the wind, the cold and the rain becomes a real necessity. Whether you live in a city or closer to nature, it is very important to choose the right fabrics and materials that can protect you from the cold and keep you dry in case of rain.

At ProtoXtype, we have always been particularly attentive to the choice of the most suitable materials for every type of activity and need. Therefore, in the specific case of cold and rainy seasons, what should be the first characteristic of the fabric? It obviously needs to be waterproof.

For their composition, waterproof breathable fabrics consist of an outer layer, usually nylon or polyester (which is the external layer that we can touch and see) and an inner membrane. The purpose of the waterproof fabric is to protect and ensure a nice look on the outside, while the membrane has to keep the water out. This means that any fabric, even cotton, could be completely waterproof if laminated with an internal membrane. It is therefore important not to be fooled by the external appearance of a fabric to indicate whether it is more or less waterproof. Obviously there are fabrics that can be more easily waterproof than others. Those we love the most are:

Il polipropilene è dunque la fibra più adatta alla produzione di abbigliamento tecnico/sportivo. Inoltre, questo materiale è idrorepellente, antimacchia e ha proprietà anallergiche e antiodoranti.

WATERPROOF SILK At ProtoXtype, we are really proud of our waterproof, laminated silk. Made with a very light silk, after a lot of research and numerous tests it has been made waterproof and breathable through a lamination process that does not ruin the base fabric. In this way, we have obtained a completely waterproof fabric, which however maintains the softness and luxury of the silk itself.

Among the consolidated characteristics of this fabric, there are its lightness and its impermeability to water. Moreover, it is windproof but breathable. All these characteristics make it suitable for protecting the traveler from the elements in any season.
